Manna Liu

Hi, I am Manna Liu

I have loved and enjoyed writing since I was young. Over the years, I have won several prizes from Chinese magazines and various competitions. My English version of set to be released in 2025.

I immigrated with my family and received immense support from the local community, which inspired me to give back. I graduated from the Settlement Studies program at NorQuest College and now work with the student support team, where I meet and assist students from diverse backgrounds. During my breaks, I like to walk around the college area. On one of these walks, I noticed the Navigation Center nearby, which sparked my curiosity. After visiting, I learned more about its services and purpose.

I was thrilled to join the Creative Writing Boot Camp: Sharing Wisdom Across Cultures through Stories because it allowed me to share my stories with Edmontonians. After registering, I began brainstorming story ideas. One day, I saw a group of children standing outside a fire station, which inspired the idea for my story. Edmonton is a city rich in heritage and multiculturalism, filled with wonderful people. This reminded me that Chinese immigrants affectionately refer to it as ‘The City of Love,’ a name inspired by the sound of the ‘E’ in Edmonton. This simple yet heartfelt nickname inspired my story, a tribute to the city and its welcoming spirit.
