We are truly grateful to all the contributors – for their courage in sharing their stories and their trust in us and this book project. We extend utmost thanks to Cathy Shi, President of the Edmonton Chinese Writing Club (EWCW); to the project coordinators: Roxanne Riemer, Ting Pimentel-Elger, and Mila Bongco-Philipzig; to editing assistance from Goldwin McEwen; to the cover art and section page designer, Eoshanelle Francisco; to Kate Boorman for the writing sessions; to Janice Easton, Director of Communications & Artistic Outreach at The Nina for facilitating the use of artworks and to the various artists at the Nina Haggerty Centre; and to Oliver Rossier for suggesting the collaboration with The Nina.
Thank you for graciously sharing all your talents.
We also wish to acknowledge the Edmonton Heritage Council for funding this project and supporting our vision to gather stories from various cultural communities in Edmonton and make these accessible to the public.
Last but not least, we are extremely grateful to be able to live and work on this land. Edmonton – Amiskwaciwâskahikan – is located within Treaty 6 Territory, original home to many diverse groups of Indigenous peoples including the nêhiyawak (Cree), Denesuline (Dene), Niitsitapi (Blackfoot), Anishinaabe (Saulteaux), Nakota Sioux (Stoney), Inuit and Métis. We are grateful that we are able to honor and practice our cultures and build our homes on this land. We pay homage to all caretakers of this land – past, present, and future – and commit to careful and considerate use of resources, so that there will be land, water, and abundance for our neighbours as well as people in the future.
